The Library of the National Institute for the Study of Totalitarianism shelters theoretical and descriptive works in the fields of history, memory writing and political sciences, concerning the right and left European totalitarian regimes. A rich and important section refers to the Romanian imprisonment diarist literature published particularly in the 1990s, which can too seldom be found in other libraries.

The Library includes 2,200 books. As for periodicals, it holds the complete collection of the “Totalitarianism Archives” journal.

Borrowing of works from the resources of the library on a long term is a prerogative of NIST researchers, researchers from outside the institute being allowed to consult the library resources at the premises of the institute, upon a request that has previously been approved by the management of NIST.

On request, the library staff may grant assistance with the elaboration of specialty bibliographies and finding certain works that belong to other libraries in Romania.
